Types of boudoir

Boudoir photography is obviously known for it's emphasis on lingerie and sensuality, but if we really break down the multitude of genres, there are a TON to choose from. I can’t hit all the topics, but we can at least scratch the surface here.

Bridal Boudoir

This is a popular option for brides-to-be. It's a chance for them to have a photoshoot wearing their bridal lingerie before the wedding day. Popular props include the veil, garter, accessories that match the bridal colors and items from their soon to be husband/wife.

It’s certainly common to see white lace and cascading veils, but there are many who break tradition and lean into the themes of their wedding without relying solely on the classic pieces, so feel free to get creative with it.

Maternity Boudoir

It’s easy to consider this chapter of life a bit less sexy - you might have swollen ankles, your lingerie let alone everyday wear doesn’t fit quite right and you’ve obviously gained some inches in the bellly… But there are those who choose to inject sensuality right into this experience, making sure to not lose the essence that brought them this pregnancy. Sometimes we end up photographing some classic maternity while others focus solely on boudoir.

Popular themes in this time are milkbath maternity boudir photoshoots, some sport jersey sets showing off the belly as well as split empire waist babydoll pieces. We’ve had a woman decorate her baby bump with henna and others who decorated with body paint.

Implied Nude Boudoir

Unlike nude photography, implied nude photography involves not showing explicit body parts. It relies on angles, shadows, props and poses to suggest nudity without actually showing the goods.

For those who want some spice without the full committment, this is the go-to.

Fine Art Nude Boudoir

Then there’s actual fine art nude boudoir photos. For the ladies who really aren’t shy and want full-scale spiciness, these sets are prime intensity! You can feel free to embrace your body as god gave it, highlighting your greatest assets.

Couples Boudoir

This sessions are such a blast! Not only do the couples who come through our doors for a couples budoir photoshoot get awesome images of each other, but also fantastic memories. Couples boudoir sessions aim to capture the essence of the couple, their energy together, their quirks, hobbies, passions, shared sensualities and overall personalities. We’re able to feature each individual in the light they prefer while putting to image the tenderness and love shared between the two.

Beauty Boudoir

Beauty boudoir is boudoir… with a little bit of extra coverage! There are times we photograph dresses, blazers, oversized sweaters, etc while simultaneously capturing the sensuality of the individual behind it.

I love a good lingerie set, don’t get me wrong, but your really don’t need to show a lot to be sexy and beautiful on camera. With proper posing and expressions, you bring hte same energy.

Outdoor Boudoir

Outdoor boudoir is any style of boudoir photography in a natural outdoor environment. Many times we’ve gone a bit more ethereal and magical, but you could just as easily go more rugged, witchy, sporty or otherwise. Incorporating the outdoors allows you to incorporate florals, greenery, bodies of water, dirt, butterflies and mountain ranges to create a narrative that compliments the physique.

Gothic Boudoir

Turn down the lights and turn the mood up! Gothic boudoir can range from Victorian romantic, sexy vampire style to industrial goth. We’ve pulled off bright pinks and baby blues with gothic boudoir looks before, but traditionally we’ll amp up the shadows and lean into the crimson reds, navy blues and black.

Vintage Boudoir

When we say vintage boudoir, that could mean pin-up, vintage clothing, vintage photo editing styles or any combination of the above. Since pin-up is pretty self-explanatory, I’ll share the image below which incorporates vintage props with classic attire. One or two details puts this image into a whole other time in history yet it was photographed just months ago!

Cosplay Boudoir

Whether you’re an anime, manga or video game nerdy, cosplaying is such a fun way to bring sexiness to your favorite character and yourself! Our model below sported a Faye Valentine character outfit from Cowboy Bebop. Rest assured, we brought some real sultry to this set soon after!

Artistic Boudoir

Artistic boudoir can mean so much - truly! The example below is combining vintage aesthetic with visual distortion to create a slight kaleidoscopic visual effect. But creative or conceptual boudoir is wide open for creativity with lighting, concept, color theory, posing, etc. In this kind of session, we aim to create a concept that breaks the norms of photography, creating a true piece of art.
