History of Male Boudoir
Most of us are likely familiar with pre-20th century classical art depicting hyper-idealized male physique. The likes of Michaelangelo’s David is one of many iconic examples from the era. Later, the Victorian Age discreetly introduced erotic male photography through artists like Wilhelm von Gloeden, whose taboo portraits were circulated in secret. His work eventually led to the confiscation and destruction of thousands of film negatives under Italian Fascist leader Benito Mussolini, who alleged pornography distribution.
The 1920s–1950s are what we think of as the golden era of classic pin-up, but men were rarely the focus. The 1960s–1980s tapped into gay liberation and the sexual revolution, challenging both fashion and gender norms of the time. But it was the 1980s–1990s—with brands like Calvin Klein—that reintroduced the masculine male into the spotlight, paving the way for magazines like Esquire and GQ.
From the 2010s onward, the door has been blown wide open. Platforms like Instagram and OnlyFans now allow men to leverage thirst traps, market to other men, and use their sex appeal as a launchpad for artistic endeavors—mirroring the freedom women have had since the sexual revolution.
I mentioned this in the Dudeoir Photoshoot blog (coming soon) featuring my wonderful male boudoir client, Jeff, but it’s worth noting that back in 2016, a photoshoot went viral of a man posing in overalls, red polka dot boxers and in his birthday suit holding an American flag for a comical “Dudeoir” photoshoot the photographer entitled, “God Bless America Dudeoir Country Collection.” There were other viral articles released by Cosmopolitan and Buzzfeed prior to, but this collection was a hit on its own accord and it was around this time that the term “dudeoir” truly came to popularity.
Stigma Around Male Boudoir Photoshoots
The two most common stigmas are sensual male portraiture I encounter are:
Men fearing that expressive, vulnerable poses will be perceived as weakness.
The concern (less prevalent in Atlanta, but still present) that they’ll be assumed gay for participating.
Let’s dismantle both.
Vulnerability ≠ Weakness True strength lies in self-assurance—not armor. Psychologists affirm that embracing vulnerability builds resilience and authenticity, but you don’t need a study to see it: Picture a man in a sleek pink button-up whose confidence effortlessly erases doubts about his masculinity. Recall a heated argument where a calm, quiet man’s poise outshouts rage. That’s power. Vulnerability is only "weak" if you let it be.
But also, it’s 2025. Masculinity isn’t a monolith. In fact, you can absolutely come in with the intent to portray muscle, strength and dominance, but if gentleness, flamboyance, bold fashion or any other relevant description is more your jam.. by all means, we got you!
Types of Male Boudoir Sessions
Male boudoir can be approached in a wide range of methodologies and these ideas just start to scratch the surface. My hope, however, is that it gets the ball rolling and the ideas flowing so that you may plan a photoshoot with My Boudoir Atlanta that authentically suits you.
Male Fitness Boudoir
This is probably the most requested starting point—and for good reason. Show off your hard work with a session that naturally amplifies sexiness through athleticism. Compression shorts, sweat-glowing skin, and strategic lighting let you toggle between a fitness photoshoot and an athletic “dudeoir” session with just a shift in pose, lighting and expression.
Male Erotic Photography
Now, there’s a fine line between erotica and porn, but any boudoir photographer you speak to can clarify their own limitations legally in accordance with their insurance and local laws as well as their own personal boundaries. At My Boudoir Atlanta, we allow full nudity and even the showing of arousal combined with suggestive posing. Our hard stops are at climax and any form of penetration. We also do not personally partake in any fantasies outside of photographing for you.
So, with that being said, you are free to bring the fitted briefs, the silk robe, the kink accessories/props and the natural excitement that comes from being in front of the camera!
Couples Boudoir
Sometimes it can be nervewrecking to pose for the first time, so we welcome you to bring your partner either as a support system or to model with you! We’ve photographed sensual couples photoshoots in playful, cozy, spicy and romantic ways. There’s an understanding of the many ways couples dynamics can be from the perspective of dommes, subs and switches to themes that simple tap into their personalities and experiences together.

Fine Art Male Nude Photography
For those who prioritize form over scenery. These sessions celebrate the body as art, requiring no "ideal" physique—just vulnerability and presence. Think sculptural lighting, emotion-driven poses, and a focus on skin, physique, emotion and movement. This is less classic boudoir and more modern Michelangelo.
In Conclusion
Atlanta—where Outkast redefined Southern hip-hop and David Cross helped distinguish Gen X comedy. Now it's your turn. Male boudoir isn't about who's watching; it's about who you see in the mirror and we specialize in making that man unforgettable!
