Best Time to Schedule Your Maternity Session
Timing is everything when it comes to maternity photography. You want a bump that is clearly defined and "popping," but you also want to feel mobile and energetic enough to enjoy the pampering experience.
The Magic Window: 28–34 Weeks
For most women, the ideal time for both traditional and maternity boudoir is between 7 and 8 months. During this window:
The Silhouette: Your belly is beautifully round and high, which is perfect for those dramatic boudoir silhouettes and "goddess" lighting.
Comfort Levels: You likely still have the energy to navigate different poses. In the final weeks (36+), things like sitting on the floor or arching your back for artistic shots can become physically taxing.
Skin & Glow: This is typically when the "maternity glow" is at its peak, and swelling in the hands or feet—common in the very late stages—hasn't fully set in yet.
Expecting Multiples?
If you’re carrying twins or triplets, your "sweet spot" arrives a bit sooner! We recommend scheduling your session between 24 and 28 weeks. Your bump will likely be at a "full term" size by then, and we want to ensure we capture your beauty before you hit that final, uncomfortable stretch.
The "Last Minute" Miracle
Did you miss the 34-week window? Don't worry. If you are 37 or 38 weeks and feeling great, we can still create magic. While we’ll keep the posing more relaxed and "low-impact," there is a unique, powerful beauty in those final days of pregnancy that is absolutely worth documenting.
