Do Boudoir Photographers Photoshop You? Here's How I Actually Handle It

Almost every woman asks some version of this, usually a little quietly: "You're going to fix me in Photoshop, right?"

It's a loaded question, because underneath it are two opposite fears living in the same person. One half is afraid I'll edit her into a stranger she doesn't recognize. The other half is afraid I won't smooth the thing she's self-conscious about. Both fears are valid, and most studios only answer one of them. Here's how I handle both.

Do Boudoir Photographers

Photoshop Your Photos?

Some retouch everything before you ever see it; some refuse to retouch at all. My approach is different: on the day of your session, you see your images with only light color and contrast toning — no skin editing, no reshaping — so you see the real you first. From there, the final retouching is entirely your call: as much or as little as you want. There is no right or wrong amount.

That two-part answer is the whole philosophy, so let me walk through why each half matters.

You See the Real You First — Before Any Editing

Here's the part I care about most. The same day as your shoot, I show you your images with only light toning — color balanced, contrast adjusted, nothing else. No smoothing, no slimming, no erasing. Just you, well-lit, exactly as you are.

I do this on purpose, and it's the most important moment of the whole experience.

Because here's what happens: you walk in convinced you need to be fixed before you can be photographed. Then you see yourself on the screen — real, unedited, glowing — and your brain can't argue with it. It saw what it saw. That reaction, the quiet "wait, is that me?", is the entire point.

I've watched women go silent. I've watched them tear up. I've watched someone who spent the whole drive over listing everything she wanted hidden look at the screen and forget the list entirely. That moment is a piece of evidence about how you actually look that no compliment, no filter, and no fully-retouched gallery could ever give you — because you'd dismiss those as flattery or Photoshop. This, you can't dismiss.

If I handed you a heavily airbrushed image on reveal day, you'd love it for an afternoon and then quietly file it under "not really me." The lightly-toned version does the opposite. It sticks. That's the confidence that follows you home.

Then the Retouching Is Entirely Your Call

Once you've seen the real you, then we talk about editing — and this is where you're fully in charge.

Want nothing touched? Done. That's a real and beautiful choice, and plenty of women make it. Want a distracting bruise or a breakout that showed up uninvited that morning removed? Easy. Want more? We can talk about it. Your body, your images, your decision — every time.

What I won't do is make that choice for you before you've had a say. I'm not going to assume you dislike something and "fix" it preemptively, because that quietly sends the message that your real body needed correcting. You get to see yourself first, and then you drive.

Some women choose feather-light. Some choose more polish. Both are right, because the only wrong version is the one you didn't get to choose.

If you've searched "boudoir editing before and after" hoping to see how much gets changed, here's the honest version: with me, the "before" is what you see on reveal day — real and lightly toned — and the "after" only exists if, and to the degree, you ask for it. The gap between the two is a decision you make, not one made for you.

What About Stretch Marks, Scars,

and the Things I'm Self-Conscious About?

This is usually the real question hiding inside "do you Photoshop?"

The honest answer: those are yours to keep or soften, and you decide which. Some women want their C-section scar, their stretch marks, their tattoos, their mastectomy scars kept exactly as they are — because those are their story, and the photos are proof of a body that has lived. Others want a temporary blemish gone. Both are completely valid.

There's a difference between removing something temporary (a bruise, a pimple, razor burn) and erasing something that's part of you. I'll never make that call unilaterally. We talk about it, image by image if you want, and you always have the final word.

How the Reveal Actually Works in Atlanta

At My Boudoir Atlanta, the same-day reveal is built into every boudoir session. After we shoot, I do a light color-and-contrast pass — no liquify, no skin retouching — and we look at your images together, that afternoon, on the big screen. You see the real you first, while the feeling from the session is still live.

Only after that do we talk about which images you want, and what level of retouching (if any) feels right to you. No pressure, no surprises, and nothing edited behind your back.

If you're curious about the rest of how a session works, the questions I get asked most are answered on my about page, and you can see what a session runs here. Or just book a free consultation and ask me anything — this is exactly the kind of thing we talk through before you ever book.

So let me turn the question around: if you could see yourself, honestly, before a single edit — and then decide what happens next — what do you think you'd choose to keep?

My Boudoir Atlanta is a woman-owned studio in central Atlanta, photographing women of every shape, size, age, and shade. You see the real you first. What happens after that is always your call.
